OneDrive Everywhere

If you’re currently using SkyDrive, nothing is changing other than the name of the service. You won’t lose any data, and everything should be working like it did before with the same features. In fact, it’s getting some new features depending on the device you’re running it on. The Windows Phone 8 edition is getting the following new extras: New in version 3.5:

New thumbnail viewImproved view of shared filesShare multiple items at oncePin folders to your Start screenOpen your OneDrive files in other appsBug fixes and performance improvements

After installing the update on Windows Phone, I was prompted to log in with my Microsoft Account again. The tile on my home screen still says SkyDrive, but when I launch it, it opens as OneDrive. To fix the issue, I unpinned the SkyDrive tile, swiped over to my apps list, then pinned OneDrive to Start.

News of this update came out just after 2am CST. I went to the Windows Phone App Store and needed to update my current version of SkyDrive to get the name change and new features. According to the email sent out by Microsoft which says it started rolling out and will be in App stores in a  few hours. Hopefully by the time you read this, it will be ready for you to grab.

OneDrive is available on most Desktop and mobile operating systems. To get it for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, or Windows Phone, then go to the OneDrive download page. It has links to where you can download each version. in the description in Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, you’ll see it has (formerly SkyDrive) in the description.

Hopefully Microsoft doesn’t run into any litigation with the OneDrive branding, and more features continue to get added for it on all platforms. If you want to find out more straight from the company, make sure to subscribe to The OneDrive Blog. I could retire… ;) When I tested out the beta of Windwos 8.1 Update 1: https://www.groovypost.com/unplugged/windows-8-1-update-1/ It’s rebranded to OneDrive. Comment Name * Email *
