Patch Tuesday Updates for October 2016 Web browser updates for Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge resolve severe vulnerabilities and exploits, which include remote code execution from a specially crafted page, designed to gain user access. Microsoft video and graphics components both receive patches for vulnerabilities found that could allow an attacker to exploit and run arbitrary code. Microsoft Office, the company’s productivity suite, which includes, Word, Excel and PowerPoint gets an update, which resolves an Office RTF remote code execution vulnerability; when the Office software fails to properly handle RTF files....

According to Microsoft: “This security update resolves a vulnerability in Windows that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted document or goes to an untrusted webpage that contains embedded OpenType fonts.” The Microsoft Security advisory site provides additional details: Microsoft says it’s not aware of any customers being attacked yet, but because it released this patch today, the company appears to feel it’s potentially a serious problem....

You might remember seeing the game creator in action at the Kodu demo at CES 2009, during which Sparrow, a 12-year old girl, whooped Microsoft Entertainment and Devices honcho Robbie Bach at a game of her own creation. Every owner of the HTC Desire HD was eagerly waiting for the update. Then, a little more than a week ago, Canadian operator Telus issued a device upgrade schedule, which said, among other things, that the HTC Desire HD’s update was cancelled by HTC “due to poor performance during testing”. Users started wandering around forums to comment on the statement, but HTC gave a pretty confusing statement to Android Central, saying that it was “currently determining the ability to support Ice Cream Sandwich on the HTC Desire HD....
